Theme Reveal Date

The Art Fight Theme Reveal stream will start at 2:00pm UTC and run until 8:00pm UTC, at which point the team reveal animation will play!

Art Fight Theme Reveal Stream

  • Please join us on June 15th for the 2024 Art Fight Theme Reveal, which will stream live on our YouTube. The stream will start at 2:00pm UTC and run until 8:00pm UTC, at which point the team reveal animation will play!
  • The Art Fight Theme Reveal is an animation made annually by the talented Axel that announces the theme for this year's Art Fight. We hope you can make it, but don't despair if you can't - after the stream, the themes will be announced onsite, and the animation will be posted to our YouTube.
  • Leading up to the reveal, we'll also have a ton of in-stream activities hosted by mods like Quiplash, Gartic Phone, and some fun art games! We've also got word in that there'll be an exciting announcement after the reveal, so make sure to stick around. I mean what, who said that?

Art Fight Start Date

  • Like every year, Art Fight 2024 will start on July 1st at 6:00pm UTC.
  • We recommend that you start preparing yourself now by updating your characters, bookmarking other people’s characters, and getting those refs into shape... there's no time like the present!
  • Remember that drawing attacks before Art Fight starts (July 1st, 6:00pm UTC) is against the rules. Not only is it unfair to others, but it is a direct violation of the spirit of Art Fight. If you attempt to do this, your account may be banned. Please be considerate and show good team spirit!

Art Fight 2024

Information about changes made to the site, planned updates, and more!

Art Fight Keychain Updates

  • Keychains are now in production, and users who pre-ordered one will receive an email once they've shipped. They'll start shipping out soon, so keep your eyes peeled!
  • The onsite achievement for users who purchased a keychain will be processed before the event begins. Thanks for your patience!
Site Rules Updated

  • We've given our site rules a long-needed update. Before the event begins, please make yourself familiar with our updated Rules
  • Alongside editing them for clarity, our rules have been updated to reflect our updated Filters Guidelines, our disallowance of AI-generated content, and general information regarding allowed characters and content on the site.
Filters Guidelines Updated

  • We have updated our Filter Guidelines. Please take the time to review them here, as we have made some changes to certain types of content allowed on Art Fight. Notably, we have renamed Sexual Themes to Suggestive Themes, which has been significantly updated as a category. We are also moving away from using the term "Maturity Filters" in favor of simply "Filters".
  • We'd like to apologize for making these changes right before the fight, as we understand that these kinds of updates can be overwhelming. Internal systems and resources took priority this year; in the future, we will release major rule updates at least a few months before the fight to give users ample time to review them.
  • To make up for this, we will be providing users with a grace period to change or remove any affected content. No penalties will be issued to users whose content may need to be re-filtered or removed from the site. During this time, moderators may hide offending characters and notify users that they need to be filtered or removed, and users will be able to migrate newly-disallowed content off-site. This grace period will last until July 14, 2024. After this point, content found that is in violation of the updated Filter Guidelines may be subject to stricter administrative action. Note that this grace period will not apply to content that is uploaded after the posted date of our new Filter Guidelines.
  • If you have any questions concerning our new Rules or Filters Guidelines, please contact a moderator or ask in one of our Discord's help channels.
Updated DMCA Procedure for Copyright Infringements

  • In an effort to reduce site-mod strain and balance the creative expression of our users with respect for copyright laws, we have updated our DMCA procedure.
  • Uncredited photo backgrounds are now handled through reports from the infringed parties via the DMCA system rather than through site reports. We encourage users to credit photo backgrounds if they are using them for attacks.
  • Below are the key points regarding what is now permissible on-site and what will be subject to takedown:
Permissible Content

  • Original characters (OCs) in canon characters' clothes.
  • Redrawing canon characters or logos on accessories; it is acceptable to depict canon characters on accessories such as T-shirts or as plushies, but they must be hand-drawn renditions.
  • Alternate universe (AU) characters can now bear a closer resemblance to canon characters, as long as the AU has at least one noticeable difference from the canon design.
Content Subject to Takedown:

  • Exact replicas and re-uploads of canon characters.
  • Directly uploading company logos as characters.
  • Posting images that are not explicitly free-to-use, such as collages or moodboards. You may however host these moodboards or collages off-site (such as on Pinterest) and link them in the character's bio.
May/June Changelog
Head over to our Changelog to find out more about what's changed!

  • Like in April, we focused on improvements and additions to our moderation tools. In the past, moderators were not able to view certain report types due to permission roadblocks. This has been fixed, and believe that this will lead to better response times on reports. The Tag Search has also been optimized and load times should also improve. Both of these fixes are in testing and will be live on the site this week.
  • We are also working on implementing a way for users to delete their account. We're hoping to release this before the fight begins, but may not be able to due to the internal work it requires. As always, we thank you for your patience regarding this.
  • Have an idea for Art Fight? Let us know here! We'll periodically check up on this form and add submitted suggestions to our Trello board.

Edit (06/12/24): Regarding our new Suggestive Themes rules
- We plan to release a separate newspost clarifying and adjusting some of our recently changed rules

I decided to re write my post. So I understand the intent behind the "no low effort attack" rule, but what I don't understand is why? Why should those attacks be removed? I'm assuming the rule is meant to target people who upload hundreds of quick sketches during AF - or maybe like that person that does the simple pixel headshots - and I think that's dumb! Like, is the low effort put into the art not made up for by these people consistently making hundreds of drawings through the month, no matter how simple? I couldn't do that. I think attacks like those have their place on the site, and personally I don't mind getting them. It's fun, feels like my oc is part of a larger thing.

What's not fun is ... limiting stuff like this. Seriously, why does it matter that someone isn't putting effort jnto their attacks? If they're rating them properly than it shouldn't, i think. People should be able to play artfight however they want. Whether that's only doing 1-2 heavily detailed attacks through the month or by uploading 1000 quick sketches. I understand users like this are frequently complained about and called art farmers or whatever but should that really affect the sites rules on the matter?? People also have issue with people who follow thousands of users to get more attacks. Is there gonna be a follow cap added next? Let people fuck around and be silly! Artfight is the month to experiment, with artstyle or maybe just to see how fast you can draw, who cares! It's fun!!! It's a game with no stakes, why add rules to limit people like that!
from what i understand the rule about low effort art is specifically referring to people who post very large amounts (like several hundred or more) of simple attacks that would only take a few minutes or so to make as a way of getting as many points as possible. though it definitely wouldnt hurt to be more specific about what they mean. and its also impossible to know peoples intentions really so idk where exactly they draw the line there

but either way i dont think its very likely for people to have their stuff taken down just because its a sketch or theyre a beginner artist or something. and also idk why people are talking like this is a new rule its been there forever

Also I know the point has been made already, but I'm noticing that these genuine game-changing rules are still largely under the radar to users. These changes were hidden at the bottom of an update post that, let's be real, most people glanced at and then clicked off of. The people who have actually read into it and the rules again have commented here, but it has been almost completely silent on other sites and avenues. Obviously I haven't been to every little speck of the internet, but sites like Tumblr and TikTok basically have crickets about these changes. I was even curious as to if this was being acknowledged in the Discord server, but from what I saw (and correct me if I'm wrong) it's been radio silent in there regarding this.

Honestly it's pretty messed up knowing that multiple people may have their characters be harshly taken down or flagged due to a lack of a more major standalone announcement.
+1 For the censorship getting a bit out of hand, and also for more clarification on what is dubbed "fetish gear" or "low-effort" art.  It will be really disheartening for newer or disabled artisits' art to be reported or accused of 'low-effort'.

Artfight after making rules that are extremely vague and cuts out half of their active userbase:
seconding the comments about 'effort' as a disabled artist my art is 'messy' and may appear to 'lack effort' and I feel it's too open to individual interpretation

as well as comments about the new rules on 'kink/fetish', been apart of artfight since 2017 and this sucks

Edit: someone else mentioned the rule about effort going against the spirit of the fight, despite there also being rules about things that…go against the spirit of the fight
Chiming in here as a long time art fight user to say that I am also NOT a fan of the new rule about attacks needing to "clearly display effort" along with what others have also pointed out about not being able to use premade brushes/assets for leaves or trees or stuff like that. (which is dumb, since that still takes work). I don't like the idea of something as subjective as 'effort' being subject to scrutiny. Just believe people when they say how much effort an attack takes and leave it at that, it's literally impossible to be able to tell from looking at an art piece how much effort went into it. There are a lot of beginner artists on this site, and I wouldn't want them to get pieces taken down because they're deemed too "simplistic" or low-effort. Personally, I love and cherish every piece of art anyone draws for me of my OCs.
Also some of my all time FAVORITE attacks I've gotten in the past have been silly meme drawings and "simplistic, low-effort" doodles that make me laugh. Like, for instance, would this attack my awesome friend did for me a few years ago qualify as having "extreme oversimplification" ? What about this one? (which is literally one of my favorite drawings I have EVER gotten of my characters) If so, that's just ridiculous and not what art fight should be about. Let me and my friends draw silly doodles for each other lol.
It also just feels like a mean spirited rule that targets beginner artists unfairly and is unnecessary. I saw someone else in this comment thread mention this too, but I also feel like many of us aren't really here for the points anyway, we're here to make and receive art, that's what it's all about, it's more for fun. I can't fully speak to others' experience, but I've been on art fight for five years now and that's always how it's felt to me.

I also do want to agree with others who have expressed more eloquently the reasons why the new rules regarding kink/fetish are absurd, impossible to enforce, and will alienate a huge portion of the userbase. I hadn't seen the low effort rule brought up as much (some people did, I just can't find their comments right now) and wanted to bring attention to it as well since I know the mods/admins read these comments.  I also just want to say that I had been thinking of donating to art fight this year (I have donated in the past) but I absolutely will not unless these rules are fixed/clarified.

my guess for the teams being revealed haha
( this is fake, I made this image )
Commenting again because the fact that suggestive art of characters in lingerie gets to be allowed as long as it's filtered, but something like suggestive art of characters wearing a collar is banned is an extremely double-faced rule.

Lingerie, in any form, is far more suggestive than a characters wearing a collar, and the fact that a character wearing lingerie is allowed to be in suggestive art with filters, but other, far more tame stuff isn't, is so stupid. Especially as someone else said, lingerie is a type of fetish gear/clothing, its just probably the most vanilla fetish stuff out there, and therefor accepted as okay because of how basic it is. If the owners of ArtFight really don't want fetish or suggestive stuff on the site, then they should follow their own rules and get rid of all of it, rather than tip-toeing around and allowing some things, and banning others that are on the same level, or lower, than suggestive art/characters in lingerie...

It's stupid, they needa make up their minds. Just get rid of anything suggestive, or loosen up on the rules and add filters for things so minors and people who don't wanna see it, WON'T SEE IT! That's what the filters are for! Use them ffs! If a minor lies about their age when they sign up and they see stuff they shouldn't and then get upset about it, that is 100% on that dumbass minor for trying to get around the rules, NOT on ANYBODY else...
Same applies for gore art, but at least it has filters set up...

Istfg... the stupid "protect the children purity culture" bullshit that has been going of the past 4 years is really starting to piss me off...
