Theme Reveal Date

The Art Fight Theme Reveal stream will start at 2:00pm UTC and run until 8:00pm UTC, at which point the team reveal animation will play!

Art Fight Theme Reveal Stream

  • Please join us on June 15th for the 2024 Art Fight Theme Reveal, which will stream live on our YouTube. The stream will start at 2:00pm UTC and run until 8:00pm UTC, at which point the team reveal animation will play!
  • The Art Fight Theme Reveal is an animation made annually by the talented Axel that announces the theme for this year's Art Fight. We hope you can make it, but don't despair if you can't - after the stream, the themes will be announced onsite, and the animation will be posted to our YouTube.
  • Leading up to the reveal, we'll also have a ton of in-stream activities hosted by mods like Quiplash, Gartic Phone, and some fun art games! We've also got word in that there'll be an exciting announcement after the reveal, so make sure to stick around. I mean what, who said that?

Art Fight Start Date

  • Like every year, Art Fight 2024 will start on July 1st at 6:00pm UTC.
  • We recommend that you start preparing yourself now by updating your characters, bookmarking other people’s characters, and getting those refs into shape... there's no time like the present!
  • Remember that drawing attacks before Art Fight starts (July 1st, 6:00pm UTC) is against the rules. Not only is it unfair to others, but it is a direct violation of the spirit of Art Fight. If you attempt to do this, your account may be banned. Please be considerate and show good team spirit!

Art Fight 2024

Information about changes made to the site, planned updates, and more!

Art Fight Keychain Updates

  • Keychains are now in production, and users who pre-ordered one will receive an email once they've shipped. They'll start shipping out soon, so keep your eyes peeled!
  • The onsite achievement for users who purchased a keychain will be processed before the event begins. Thanks for your patience!
Site Rules Updated

  • We've given our site rules a long-needed update. Before the event begins, please make yourself familiar with our updated Rules
  • Alongside editing them for clarity, our rules have been updated to reflect our updated Filters Guidelines, our disallowance of AI-generated content, and general information regarding allowed characters and content on the site.
Filters Guidelines Updated

  • We have updated our Filter Guidelines. Please take the time to review them here, as we have made some changes to certain types of content allowed on Art Fight. Notably, we have renamed Sexual Themes to Suggestive Themes, which has been significantly updated as a category. We are also moving away from using the term "Maturity Filters" in favor of simply "Filters".
  • We'd like to apologize for making these changes right before the fight, as we understand that these kinds of updates can be overwhelming. Internal systems and resources took priority this year; in the future, we will release major rule updates at least a few months before the fight to give users ample time to review them.
  • To make up for this, we will be providing users with a grace period to change or remove any affected content. No penalties will be issued to users whose content may need to be re-filtered or removed from the site. During this time, moderators may hide offending characters and notify users that they need to be filtered or removed, and users will be able to migrate newly-disallowed content off-site. This grace period will last until July 14, 2024. After this point, content found that is in violation of the updated Filter Guidelines may be subject to stricter administrative action. Note that this grace period will not apply to content that is uploaded after the posted date of our new Filter Guidelines.
  • If you have any questions concerning our new Rules or Filters Guidelines, please contact a moderator or ask in one of our Discord's help channels.
Updated DMCA Procedure for Copyright Infringements

  • In an effort to reduce site-mod strain and balance the creative expression of our users with respect for copyright laws, we have updated our DMCA procedure.
  • Uncredited photo backgrounds are now handled through reports from the infringed parties via the DMCA system rather than through site reports. We encourage users to credit photo backgrounds if they are using them for attacks.
  • Below are the key points regarding what is now permissible on-site and what will be subject to takedown:
Permissible Content

  • Original characters (OCs) in canon characters' clothes.
  • Redrawing canon characters or logos on accessories; it is acceptable to depict canon characters on accessories such as T-shirts or as plushies, but they must be hand-drawn renditions.
  • Alternate universe (AU) characters can now bear a closer resemblance to canon characters, as long as the AU has at least one noticeable difference from the canon design.
Content Subject to Takedown:

  • Exact replicas and re-uploads of canon characters.
  • Directly uploading company logos as characters.
  • Posting images that are not explicitly free-to-use, such as collages or moodboards. You may however host these moodboards or collages off-site (such as on Pinterest) and link them in the character's bio.
May/June Changelog
Head over to our Changelog to find out more about what's changed!

  • Like in April, we focused on improvements and additions to our moderation tools. In the past, moderators were not able to view certain report types due to permission roadblocks. This has been fixed, and believe that this will lead to better response times on reports. The Tag Search has also been optimized and load times should also improve. Both of these fixes are in testing and will be live on the site this week.
  • We are also working on implementing a way for users to delete their account. We're hoping to release this before the fight begins, but may not be able to due to the internal work it requires. As always, we thank you for your patience regarding this.
  • Have an idea for Art Fight? Let us know here! We'll periodically check up on this form and add submitted suggestions to our Trello board.

Edit (06/12/24): Regarding our new Suggestive Themes rules
- We plan to release a separate newspost clarifying and adjusting some of our recently changed rules

So, let me get this straight.
Regarding canon/copyrighted characters- It makes sense you can't upload a 1:1 replica/screenshot of those kinds of characters or even claim a copyrighted character as your own, but just so I'm clear, I'll be using Godzilla as an example.
As far as what is permissible, these things seem okay just as long as credit is given (even if that seems a bit redundant for this kind of example) :
- Fangojis or characters inspired by Godzilla. With AUs, it can pretty much exactly resemble Godzilla but as long as one thing is different, it's acceptable.
- OCs wearing a Godzilla kigurumi, wearing clothes with Godzilla's likeness on it or holding a Godzilla plushie
- Redrawn/recreated Godzilla logos as long as it isn't a copy/paste of the original with no changes whatsoever. (Might be best to stay away from logos altogether)

However, making art where Godzilla simply cameos as a background element and isn't the direct focus, isn't allowed?
Ok. That's kind of weird. I get why it's being implemented but it kind of stinks in a way.
On another note, It's going to suck if some dumbass reports someone for copyright infringement over a character they "think/assume" looks like another character but was completely unintentional since design elements can overlap.
Things like D&D dragons fall under fair use and are fine.

I've got a character slated to be uploaded later that is quite clearly visually inspired by certain pre-established characters, but he was also inspired by one of my pre-existing OCs I made back in 2015 (whose design wasn't inspired by anyone). So, he's like a hodgepodge of something I already made with elements of a copyrighted character I like.

Also, while I don't make fetish or kink art- The idea and definition of said art + depictions are so subjective that all it takes is someone having a bad day taking it out on you to report it. What I mean is, I draw a lot of horror & dark art so I make it a point to often show visible teeth when drawing monsters. It isn't intended or directed to be fetish/kink art at all- but someone can probably take this as 'tooth fetish' and report me for whatever one-sided reason they deem fit, even if they are entirely in the wrong. Anything can be a fetish if you put your mind to it, but it's intention and context that make it more clear or not. This is just inviting someone miserable or bitter enough to be petty and use the rules in an unfair advantage to start reporting over the most asinine things since fetishes are personalized perspectives to different people. What someone might see as suggestive, to someone else it may just be innocent or harmless. I'd like to say I would give most people the benefit of the doubt and not expect this to be as bad as it seems, but I have been continuously proven wrong time and time again and my trust in the process has waned. I also feel like this is a mild predecessor step to just banning more altogether later in the future where it's just more sanitized and regulated- I figured filters and tags were an adequate enough step against this because you can only do so much. I'm not a fan of people cherry-picking to their own tastes and go based off 'vibes only', even if it comes down to what mods deciding on 'is or isn't' something. I'm not the kind of person to yield or pander to the immaturity of other people, minors or adults, who cannot critically think for themselves enough to understand if you don't like something, don't look- don't seek, just keep scrolling. Update your own visibility settings to cater to what makes you feel comfortable- don't punish everyone just because you feel weird. It's adjacent to shaming in a way. There's this wonderful thing called the block button and this magical thing in the settings called 'Site Image Filters' that are there for this purpose. Believe it or not, If you 'accidentally see something you don't want to', it isn't the end of the world. If you click a filtered image and get upset about it, that's your fault and no one should pander to that. I don't do censorship much, but if you come to my page and give me grief over something that I drew that's clearly fine with the rest of the world including AF staff and you seem to be the only one bothered by it then you are the problem- not me.
Where does the vagueness end and the exactness begin? I can also see these new rules hurting stylization attempts and unique perspectives that really make art stand out.
I'd like to see something about this smoothed out in time for AF, but I doubt it'll happen. If it doesn't, I'll be keeping this drafted so I can bring it up in the feedback forum at the end of the event.

This isn't all a concerns-forward comment, I'm also happy to see the enforcement of cracking down on AI exclusion and point farming. Good!

Lastly, I wanted to lead with something about the theme- but I had more to say on the rule changes and changed direction. I didn't expect the reveal date to be much sooner than what it was in previous years [used to it being pretty much at the tail end of the month]- maybe that's a new change that can stick for the future. I have some ideas what it might be based on the limited visual information, but I still don't really want it to be Knights vs Dragons, even if I am the world's biggest dragon fan. I'll save that for another comment another day.
Yeah, I don't care for the new rules surrounding Fetish Art, too. They are way to vague and I don't see the issue with having characters that involve fetishes when, as far as I know, they aren't even visible to minors.
yippie!
Team is defo arctic vs tropic :0
Glad to see that AI art is being banned(LETS GOOOOOOO) but also agreed with other comments, the fetish art rule is so subjective that it's gonna cause more problems unless elaborations are created.
also yeah the fetish thing i dont like fetish stuff being Out There but i respect people w them but like. if ur gonna ban fat ocs thats kind of ? Not? Cool dude? like my fursona is a fat rat because he is Legiterally Me
I sure hope you people don't start banning plus-sized characters under the guise of them being "fetish content". I'm sick and tired of people treating fat people like me like we're only able to exist if it's someone's kink.

Don't add a rule when it's so subjective. I'm not feeling nearly as confident about continuing on this site if anything and everything could possibly be flagged and taken down for allegedly being fetish content, even if it's clearly not. Do you honestly trust yourselves to judge what is and isn't a fetish? Do you trust users to not try abusing this rule to punish others? Because it sounds like a lot of the actual fetish characters will go right under your nose while people with innocuously weird characters take the damage.
Hoping what ever the theme is it has to do with skeletons.
