Theme Reveal Date

The Art Fight Theme Reveal stream will start at 2:00pm UTC and run until 8:00pm UTC, at which point the team reveal animation will play!

Art Fight Theme Reveal Stream

  • Please join us on June 15th for the 2024 Art Fight Theme Reveal, which will stream live on our YouTube. The stream will start at 2:00pm UTC and run until 8:00pm UTC, at which point the team reveal animation will play!
  • The Art Fight Theme Reveal is an animation made annually by the talented Axel that announces the theme for this year's Art Fight. We hope you can make it, but don't despair if you can't - after the stream, the themes will be announced onsite, and the animation will be posted to our YouTube.
  • Leading up to the reveal, we'll also have a ton of in-stream activities hosted by mods like Quiplash, Gartic Phone, and some fun art games! We've also got word in that there'll be an exciting announcement after the reveal, so make sure to stick around. I mean what, who said that?

Art Fight Start Date

  • Like every year, Art Fight 2024 will start on July 1st at 6:00pm UTC.
  • We recommend that you start preparing yourself now by updating your characters, bookmarking other people’s characters, and getting those refs into shape... there's no time like the present!
  • Remember that drawing attacks before Art Fight starts (July 1st, 6:00pm UTC) is against the rules. Not only is it unfair to others, but it is a direct violation of the spirit of Art Fight. If you attempt to do this, your account may be banned. Please be considerate and show good team spirit!

Art Fight 2024

Information about changes made to the site, planned updates, and more!

Art Fight Keychain Updates

  • Keychains are now in production, and users who pre-ordered one will receive an email once they've shipped. They'll start shipping out soon, so keep your eyes peeled!
  • The onsite achievement for users who purchased a keychain will be processed before the event begins. Thanks for your patience!
Site Rules Updated

  • We've given our site rules a long-needed update. Before the event begins, please make yourself familiar with our updated Rules
  • Alongside editing them for clarity, our rules have been updated to reflect our updated Filters Guidelines, our disallowance of AI-generated content, and general information regarding allowed characters and content on the site.
Filters Guidelines Updated

  • We have updated our Filter Guidelines. Please take the time to review them here, as we have made some changes to certain types of content allowed on Art Fight. Notably, we have renamed Sexual Themes to Suggestive Themes, which has been significantly updated as a category. We are also moving away from using the term "Maturity Filters" in favor of simply "Filters".
  • We'd like to apologize for making these changes right before the fight, as we understand that these kinds of updates can be overwhelming. Internal systems and resources took priority this year; in the future, we will release major rule updates at least a few months before the fight to give users ample time to review them.
  • To make up for this, we will be providing users with a grace period to change or remove any affected content. No penalties will be issued to users whose content may need to be re-filtered or removed from the site. During this time, moderators may hide offending characters and notify users that they need to be filtered or removed, and users will be able to migrate newly-disallowed content off-site. This grace period will last until July 14, 2024. After this point, content found that is in violation of the updated Filter Guidelines may be subject to stricter administrative action. Note that this grace period will not apply to content that is uploaded after the posted date of our new Filter Guidelines.
  • If you have any questions concerning our new Rules or Filters Guidelines, please contact a moderator or ask in one of our Discord's help channels.
Updated DMCA Procedure for Copyright Infringements

  • In an effort to reduce site-mod strain and balance the creative expression of our users with respect for copyright laws, we have updated our DMCA procedure.
  • Uncredited photo backgrounds are now handled through reports from the infringed parties via the DMCA system rather than through site reports. We encourage users to credit photo backgrounds if they are using them for attacks.
  • Below are the key points regarding what is now permissible on-site and what will be subject to takedown:
Permissible Content

  • Original characters (OCs) in canon characters' clothes.
  • Redrawing canon characters or logos on accessories; it is acceptable to depict canon characters on accessories such as T-shirts or as plushies, but they must be hand-drawn renditions.
  • Alternate universe (AU) characters can now bear a closer resemblance to canon characters, as long as the AU has at least one noticeable difference from the canon design.
Content Subject to Takedown:

  • Exact replicas and re-uploads of canon characters.
  • Directly uploading company logos as characters.
  • Posting images that are not explicitly free-to-use, such as collages or moodboards. You may however host these moodboards or collages off-site (such as on Pinterest) and link them in the character's bio.
May/June Changelog
Head over to our Changelog to find out more about what's changed!

  • Like in April, we focused on improvements and additions to our moderation tools. In the past, moderators were not able to view certain report types due to permission roadblocks. This has been fixed, and believe that this will lead to better response times on reports. The Tag Search has also been optimized and load times should also improve. Both of these fixes are in testing and will be live on the site this week.
  • We are also working on implementing a way for users to delete their account. We're hoping to release this before the fight begins, but may not be able to due to the internal work it requires. As always, we thank you for your patience regarding this.
  • Have an idea for Art Fight? Let us know here! We'll periodically check up on this form and add submitted suggestions to our Trello board.

Edit (06/12/24): Regarding our new Suggestive Themes rules
- We plan to release a separate newspost clarifying and adjusting some of our recently changed rules

celestia way to ignore what everyone has actually been saying, now extend your argument to the gore and violence filters.

It's revolting how many people can't argue their point without resorting to calling anyone who questions the changes to the NSFW guidelines perverts, groomers, and implied sexual offenders. Like, holy shit.

kaltsit 's comment is a great summary of how the rules should be revised which I couldn't have said better myself.

For all the people upset about "kinkshaming", I'd like to say that I don't believe that adults here really care what your kinks are unless they are illegal or involve bodily and psychological harm. Nobody is judging you for drawing furries or dragons or whatever, I love to draw them myself. It's just that it's not someone else's fault if your fetishes are illegal or immoral, that is your problem. Being upset that you aren't allowed to creep people out with them is fucking crazy...
I don't even know why anyone would try to argue that fiction doesn't affect reality, especially considering most people I hear say it have things like "comfort characters" and would agree that representation in fictional media matters to spread a message of acceptance of all kinds of marginalized groups. That by definition is fiction affecting reality. If you're still in denial of this then just look up  "the nemo effect", straight up. (In summary if you don't want to look it up, the movie finding nemo created a massive demand for clownfish and blue tangs in the exotic pet trade, and ended up causing a ton of environmental damage and mass animal death, as an overwhelming majority of people who "wanted their own pet nemo and dory" had no regard for or understanding of how to take care of the animals themselves.)

Anyways, the main point is it's not at all unreasonable for people to just not want to be involved or included in your kinks, it's basic respect of people's boundaries... What was said here is also a great reasonable description, the rules towards nsfw are in place for consent reasons and abuse prevention, and that is nothing new or irrational.

Time will tell, but I'm certain that the mod team will know an unreasonably made report when they see them. Nobody is trying to shame or attack you by just pointing out the nature of fetishes that walk the line.

(Also, seriously, I can't wrap my head around why anyone would have a problem with what slumbrrrs said, what is there to even be upset about....)

*edit, just fixing username mistype
what about stuff like agere ocs for example? there’s lots of overlap between agere and sexual abdl, pretty much the only difference between the two is that one has the sexual label and one doesn’t. im neutral about the whole situation but im concerned because innocent things might be confused as fetish stuff and vice versa.

The whole argument that "this isn't a porn site" and "it's safer for people who don't wanna see suggestive stuff" is completely invalidated by the fact that we have the explicit nudity filter and had the sexual themes filter for forever

But even so, that's not at all the problem. If the team wants to ban whatever they consider "fetish content" and risk maybe losing a portion of their user base,  that's their problem, but it NEEDS to be properly defined.
slumbrrrs Except multiple examples have already been provided that illustrate that there's more nuance to the issue than "muh sex and porn fetish content".

Hell, look at one of my characters. Her icon is literally a mawshot. Those are associated with vore, a fetish (and an extreme one at that). Yet I chose that style not because of the kink value, but because she is an instinct-driven vampire (my anthro vampires have specific fang designs with actual non-fetish lore behind them) and a predator who lives for the rush of the hunt.

But because her icon is a mawshot, that's fetish art by the current rules, and so there's a risk of removal even though there's no actual NSFW anywhere on her page.

If you don't want to see fetish art, that's what the filter system is for. If people don't tag their stuff, that's when staff should step in. Not sooner, otherwise the filter system is pointless.
slumbrrrs people do have boundaries, that's why the maturity filters existed in the first place. Learn what people are actually having a problem with before you go commenting about it. Defining fetish is NOT simple. Anything - ANYTHING - can be a fetish. Literally anything.

When my friend was 14, she drew a cute picture of an anime girl in a sparkly bubble to test out some texture effects on CSP. It got added to a bubble fetish group on DeviantArt. A perfectly innocent drawing that most people wouldn't even THINK of as possibly being "appealing to a fetish" was added to a fetish group within days. THAT is why people are demanding clarity on the guidelines, and for an answer to the double standard with regards to gore and violence, which are also massively popular fetishes in their own right.

this is off topic from the whole thing about the new rule update being vauge (i do agree that a clarification would be greatly appreciated), but the Trello link on this news post and the Changelog link to two entirely different boards. Was this a mistake from an outdated copy-paste thing or something else?

I'd like to remind everyone framing this as us going "but we want sex and porn" that it's less about wanting to be able to draw that and more about the rules around it being inconsistent and vague.

If the team wants to ban NSFW they should just do that instead of pussyfooting around the issue trying not to upset people. If not, then this is what filters are for.

Honestly I don’t see the problem with the website trying to make itself safer for people. I agree with most of the new rules but I can see why people want better clarification on them
While I do think some of the rules are vague some of y'all cannot read

fetish gear/content is exactly what is says on the tin and if y'all are gonna cry and call people "antis" and "kink shamers" over it go make your own kinky/nsfw artfight thing. mind you there are minors on this website and people who have their own boundaries too.
Code-Muse watch out! the new suggestive content guidelines state "Words that refer to explicit sexual content or acts are not allowed, even under a filter. This applies site-wide." The F word falls under that.

I think this demonstrates pretty clearly the overall issue with these new rules. I understand their intention and I've no qualms with AF having a no erotic content policy, however the way these rules and guidelines have currently been phrased is too vague and nonspecific. I think they need a little more work to prevent abuse. Currently, it's entirely possible for someone to mass report someone for fringe cases and depending on the moderator looking at them get them penalised for things that are not the intention of the rule based on the fact that whatever it is technically applies, such as saying common phrases including the f word in them.
